Trust and Prayer in Time of Trouble

Psalms 28

(Mabel Cooper)

This is a faith soliloquy of David.  A soliloquy is "the act of talking to oneself".  It's a dramatic monologue that give the illusion of being a series of unspoken reflections.  Psalm 27 consist of two parts.  Part 1, verses 1-6 is a strong affirmation of trust in the Lord because of help he has given.  This gives him confidence to face future difficulties.  The basis of his confidence is the nearness of the Lord.  Consequently, his desire is to "dwell in the house of the Lord" continually.

David realized who he really is and who God is to him.  Verse 7-10 David begins a prayer, a petition to hear his voice when he calls to God now in his current circumstance.  His difficulty is not revealed yet it is dire because he says; "though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me."  Things are pretty bad when all forsake you, even your Mother and Father.  Yet, his steadfast trust is still in God.

Then in verses 11-14, he asks the Lord to direct his ways and acknowledges his trust in the Lord dispite people attempts to ruin him.  So here is how we will handle this scripture.

Trust and prayer in time of trouble.

     1.     Faith's Soliloquy     1-6

Part One:  My trust in in the Lord.        vs 1-3

Part Two:  His presence is my delight and confidence.      vs 4-6

11.        Faith's Petition      7-10

~ ~ Hear me Lord when I cry out to you.       v 7-8

~ ~ Now is not the time to refuse me.             v 9-10

111.       Faith's Assurance    11-14

~ ~ Comes from learning and doing the will of God       v 11

~ ~ Trusting in God despite false witnesses        v 12

~ ~ Confidence in the Davidic promises of God         v 13

~ ~ Ability to wait on the Lord, gaining strength from faith      v 14

I can think of countless times in my life where I was talking to myself, imploring God to hear my prayers, to  protect me from my enemies and difficult circumstances and being reminded of the goodness and faithfulness of God, and feeling better because I had the conversation.  How about you?
